Man
Suspected of Sexual Assault and Burglary Arrested
On
November 12, 2008 at approximately 10:00 AM, Shane Tyler Johnson (09-25-73) was
placed under arrest in the area of 1800 S Jentilly Ln, Tempe for suspicion of
burglary and attempted sexual assault.
Investigation revealed that shortly after midnight on November 10, 2008 Johnson
committed a burglary in the area of 1700 S Rural Rd, Tempe by unlawfully
remaining inside the business after hours and removing cash from the office
after the business had closed.
Later
that day at approximately 11:30 PM, Johnson forcibly entered a residence in the
area of Rural Rd and Broadway Rd. Once inside the residence, Johnson made
contact with a female sleeping in a bedroom. Johnson removed the victim’s
clothing. A struggle ensued which resulted in the victim cutting the suspect
with a sword. The suspect fled the residence and was not contacted at this
time. The victim sustained some minor injuries in the incident.
On
November 12, 2008 at approximately 06:30 AM, Tempe Police Officers responded to
the area of 1800 S Jentilly Ln, reference a possible prowler in the area.
Officers made contact with this person who was identified as Shane Tyler
Johnson. Officers working in collaboration with one another, using the
surveillance footage from the burglary, determined that Johnson was the same
individual responsible for the burglary and attempted sexual assault.
Johnson
was placed under arrest and booked into Tempe City Jail where he was held to see
a judge.
